The Sounds of Baltimore Music
Baltimore has many different music venues from opera to jazz. This is a city that is known for fine arts and culture. If you want to hear some outstanding classical music you should go see the Baltimore Symphony. The home to the symphony is the acoustically designed Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall which is north of downtown. Some of the world’s greatest soloists frequently join the orchestra. You will hear classical music at its best.
The first conservatory in the United States, which is the Peabody Institute, was founded in 1857 by George Peabody. It has been part of the John Hopkins University since 1977 and has four concert halls and the Peabody Library is home to the Peabody Conservatory. You can see an array of performances here.
If you are an opera lover you must visit the Lyric Opera House which is home to the Baltimore Opera Company. The Lyric Opera House was opened in 1894 and is a historic place to hear some of the best opera in the nation.
If you are looking for live music it can be found everywhere in Baltimore. There are many bars and restaurants that provide entertainment. The Pier Six Concert Pavilion is a unique open air pavilion which showcases some of the best and biggest names in pop, jazz, rock, country and classical music.
This is a place where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the Inner Harbor and listen to some wonderful music. There is covered seating and lawn space. Patrons of the pavilion are encouraged to bring folding chairs and make themselves comfortable. This pavilion is convenient for boaters and is also within walking distance of major downtown hotels.
If you are a fan of classic rock-n-roll music you should visit Fletcher’s located in the historic waterfront neighborhood of Fells Point. There are several clubs in this place including an outdoor one. This club brings in well known independent label bands almost every night. This is a fun, lively place.
If you are in the mood for jazz you should visit Bertha’s in the heart of Fells Point. This place is a Fells Point landmark and the best place to get delicious mussels with your choice of 8 different sauces. The décor is funky and they have some of the best jazz performers around. No matter what you taste is in music, Baltimore offers a ton of choices for your listening pleasure.
